Wargrave, Berks – My Roots??

It’s really unbelievable that I have no photographs of Wargrave, or even growing up in Wargrave to look back on now I’m over the hill as it were, especially as my Mother was a fanatical photographer. The woman just could’t stop taking photographs, we had thousands of the things kicking around the house that she took with her old box camera.

When my Father died, my Mother, who had seperated from him a year or so earlier was in Wexham Park Hospital after just having had a near fatal collision with yet another car while she was crossing the road. (She made a habit of that by the way). I was in care at the time and my younger brother and sister were also put into care almost immediately. An older sister who still lives in Wargrave and her husband took it upon themselves to empty the house, and everything that could go on a bonfire DID! Including all of those precious photographs :-(

I suppose that’s why my own house is filled with photographs documenting my families life since leaving care in 1967. Still, at least these days they are all digital and don’t take up so much room. Though Yes, I do store them in several different locations including exterior hard drives ‘just incase’.

Anyway, I went on Google recently to see what photographs I could find of Wargrave in the 1950′s / 60′s and couldn’t find too much at all, so I decided to go over there today and get a few to put online so that when anyone else does a search they’ll get a few more options than I got.

Did I catch Paul Daniels and Debbie McGhee sunbathing? Hmmmmm??

Please enjoy:-
